24x36 inches, acrylic inks on board. I've been working to try and resolve a painting without using any black. It feels strangely uncomfortable for me, but my current painting teacher wants to push me into the discomfort zone.

Why is it uncomfortable for you to resolve the painting without black?

I like your paintings with black. But I like this one, too. There's still a good use of space and movement even without the black. It sucks being forced outside of your comfort zone, but it allows you to try new things that sometimes work really well.

Yes, it's an interesting challenge. I think this piece has some flaws, a rather boring expanse of a single color, but it was an interesting exercise and I will learn from it.

It looks fine. I wouldn't call it an expanse of a single colour, because there's a lot of tone variation going on. I do kind of wish there was more of that whitish colour near the bottom, but other than that I don't see anything that needs major improvement.
